I am not sure that it's childish to find a guild name that is clearly referencing the Nazi armies offensive. Millions died during the WWII, it's not something to put in a guild name because one has "a different sense of humor". Politics of any kind should stay away from our gaming - even more so when it's politics that support hate crimes.
Guilds create communities and bring people together. They allow you to easily work together with your allies and organize group events such as a WvW guild event where you can tactically coordinate your efforts. That being said, you can play the game without ever joining a guild.

The system will work based on what guilds you are in. If in no guild you can still see which guilds are talking that you are in on that toon however you can only talk to them if its a channel labeled. If you are in guild 1/2/3/4/5 and want to talk to guild 3 it would be channel /g3 in chat but only one at a time
